Tile Whimsy was born from a deep love of color, myth, and the quiet magic that lives at the edge of things — in the curl of a petal, the spread of a wing, the shimmer of ink finding its own path across a surface.

The Artist

I am a painter drawn to the spaces where the natural world and imagination meet. Working in alcohol ink — a medium as unpredictable as it is luminous — I embrace the happy accidents, the bleed and bloom of pigment, and the way each piece insists on becoming something wholly its own. No two works are identical. That is not a limitation; it is the point.

My inspirations are rooted in the mythic and the botanical: great-winged creatures perched among impossible flowers, celestial motifs softened by organic form, color palettes drawn from dusk, deep water, and the fleeting hour before a storm. The work is atmospheric, evocative, and always made by hand.

The Process

Each piece begins with ceramic tile — a surface I chose for its smooth, non-porous quality and the way it allows ink to move freely and pool with extraordinary depth. I work in small, unhurried sessions, layering alcohol inks and manipulating them with air, isopropyl alcohol, and the occasional breath held at exactly the right moment.

When the composition is complete, the tile is sealed to archival standards, protecting the surface for decades of display. Originals are signed and catalogued; each one leaves my studio with documentation of its creation.

Small-Batch. One of a Kind.

Tile Whimsy produces in small batches by design. I am not interested in volume for its own sake. Each original is a singular object — there will never be another exactly like it. When you acquire a piece from this collection, you are not purchasing a print or a reproduction. You are taking home the actual thing, with all the intention and unpredictability that went into its making.

Prints and poetry editions extend the world of each image for those who want to live with a piece across many rooms and many years. But even these are offered thoughtfully, in limited runs, with the same care given to every detail of presentation.
